When the original 309m tall mast, built in 1969, was severely damaged in a fire in August 2021, the need for a new television transmitter became urgent. With the new mast standing at 306m, atop a 376m mountain, the overall aerial height now reaches an astonishing 682m, making it one of the highest structures in Great Britain.
